Adzy’s Goods Tool Hire Terms
These terms apply when Adzy’s Goods hires its own tools directly to a customer. They are separate from Adzy’s Marketplace, where independent users advertise and transact directly with each other.
Eligibility and verification
Tool hire is available only to customers aged 18 or over. We may require photographic identification, proof of address and payment verification before releasing or dispatching equipment. We may decline a hire where we cannot satisfactorily verify the hirer or where a booking presents a reasonable fraud or safety concern.
Ownership
All hired tools remain the property of Adzy’s Goods. Hired equipment must not be sold, sub-hired, pledged, loaned to another person, deliberately concealed or otherwise disposed of. Serial numbers, security labels, identification marks and tracking devices must not be removed, altered or interfered with.
Hire period and extensions
The hire period shown at booking applies unless an extension is agreed. Customers may request an extension, but it is not guaranteed and may be declined where the tool is already reserved. Unauthorised late returns may attract the normal additional hire charge for the extra period.
For courier-delivered hires, the hire will normally begin when the equipment is successfully delivered. Where Adzy’s arranges return collection and the customer has correctly made the equipment available, a carrier delay outside the customer’s control will not by itself create extra hire charges.
Security deposit
A refundable security deposit or payment-card authorisation may be required. The amount can vary by tool and will be shown before booking. The deposit is security against amounts properly due under the hire agreement; it is not necessarily the tool’s full replacement value and does not limit the hirer’s responsibility for loss, damage or non-return.
Replacement value
The replacement value for a hired tool will be displayed or otherwise made clear before the hire is confirmed. If a tool is lost, stolen, deliberately disposed of, not returned or damaged beyond economic repair, the customer may be liable for the reasonable replacement value, less any relevant amount already recovered from a deposit.
Condition records
Before dispatch or collection, Adzy’s may take photographs and video showing the tool, serial number, supplied components, cosmetic condition, packaging and an appropriate operational check. Where possible these records will retain their capture date and time and be linked to the booking.
Customers may be required to complete a received-condition check before first use by uploading photographs or a short video of the parcel, tool, serial number and supplied components. Apparent damage, missing components or discrepancies should be reported as soon as reasonably possible and, where practical, within two hours of delivery and before use. Failure to spot a hidden or non-obvious defect within that period does not automatically make the customer responsible for it.
Customers may also be asked to record the tool’s condition immediately before return. Adzy’s will inspect and may photograph or video the equipment after it is received back.
Fair wear, cleaning and damage
Customers are not charged for reasonable fair wear and tear. Where damage is reasonably repairable, the customer may be charged the reasonable cost of restoring the tool to a safe, hireable condition. Excessive cleaning may attract a reasonable cleaning charge. Damage beyond economic repair may result in a replacement-value charge.
We will provide reasonable information explaining the basis of any damage charge.
Loss, theft and non-return
The hirer must take reasonable care of the equipment and protect it against loss and theft. Loss or theft must be reported to Adzy’s promptly and we may request a police crime reference number where appropriate.
If a tool remains overdue without an agreed extension, normal hire charges may continue while we attempt to arrange its return. Where equipment remains unreturned after reasonable contact attempts, Adzy’s may take reasonable steps to recover the equipment and/or amounts properly due under the agreement.
Safe use
The hirer is responsible for ensuring they are competent to use the tool and that it is suitable for their intended job. Equipment must be used only for its intended purpose, in accordance with manufacturer instructions and supplied safety information, with appropriate personal protective equipment where required.
Tools must not be deliberately overloaded, abused, modified, dismantled or repaired without permission. If a tool becomes damaged, sparks, overheats, develops a fault or otherwise appears unsafe, stop using it immediately and contact Adzy’s. Hiring a tool does not remove any legal requirement for work to be carried out by a suitably qualified or competent person.
Batteries, chargers and supplied components
Any battery, charger, case, guard, handle or other component supplied as part of a hire forms part of the hired equipment and must be returned. Missing components may be charged at their reasonable replacement cost. Standalone accessory hire is not offered unless expressly stated.
Consumables
Consumables such as blades, drill bits, sanding media or cutting discs are not hire goods unless expressly stated. They may be sold separately or supplied on specific terms.
Delivery and return
Where delivery is available, geographical, equipment and carrier restrictions may apply. Certain tools may be collection-only. Adzy’s may require the named hirer to be present and provide identification on delivery.
Where Adzy’s provides a prepaid return label or collection service, the applicable charge will be shown before confirmation. Customers must package equipment securely and follow the supplied return instructions.
Where a customer is permitted to arrange their own return, they must use a suitable tracked service, package the item safely and obtain appropriate transit compensation or cover up to at least the stated replacement value. The customer must supply the courier and tracking details. Responsibility remains with the customer until the item is successfully delivered back to Adzy’s when the customer selects and controls their own carrier.
Battery-powered equipment returns
Where equipment contains or is supplied with regulated batteries, Adzy’s may require a specific carrier and service. Where FedEx is specified, the customer must use the FedEx service provided or approved by Adzy’s and follow the packaging instructions. Battery-powered equipment must not be sent through an alternative carrier without prior approval.
Non-battery equipment returns
Where suitable for the item’s size, weight and value, Adzy’s may offer Royal Mail Special Delivery or another tracked and appropriately compensated return service. The applicable service and charge will be shown before confirmation.
Faulty equipment
Customers should stop using and report faulty or unsafe equipment promptly. Where a fault is not caused by customer misuse or damage, Adzy’s will provide an appropriate remedy such as replacement equipment, an extension or a proportionate refund depending on the circumstances. Nothing in these terms removes statutory consumer rights.
Cancellations
Online customers may have statutory cancellation rights. Where a customer asks for a hire to begin during an applicable cancellation period, Adzy’s may require an express request to begin the service early. Where permitted by law, a customer who cancels after the hire has begun may be required to pay a proportionate amount for the service already supplied.
Insurance and liability
Unless expressly stated otherwise, customer hire does not include insurance against loss, theft or damage. Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts liability that cannot legally be excluded or limits a customer’s statutory rights.
Privacy
Identity, payment, condition records, photographs, video, serial numbers and other booking information may be processed for hire administration, fraud prevention, safety, dispute handling and legal compliance in accordance with the Adzy’s Goods Privacy Policy.
